- A:Only 1987 through 1995 models use a replaceable inline fuel filter. The manufacturer does not suggest periodic fuel filter replacement on 1997 and later models. Since the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank on 1997 and later models, if fuel contamination makes it necessary to replace the fuel filter. 1995 and earlier models employ an in-line fuel filter. The filter is located on the left side frame rail, near the fuel tank. On port fuel injected engines, the system is under pressure even when the engine is off. With the engine cold, place a container, newspapers or rags under the fuel filter. Remove the metal shield, disconnect the fuel hoses and detach the filter from the frame. Remove the shield, then unscrew the fuel hose clamps-pull off the hoses and remove the securing strap bolt. Install the new filter by reversing the removal procedure. Make sure the arrow or the word “OUT” on the filter points toward the engine, not the fuel tank. Tighten the screw clamps securely, but not to the point where the rubber hose is badly distorted.Posted by MoparPartsGiant Specialist
